Back to School Efforts Not Just at School

When a brand marketer thinks about a back to school effort targeting moms or college age students, school initiatives such as the following often come to mind:
  • Experiential events at the school/on campus
  • PTA-endorsed activities
  • Bookstore sampling
  • University sports or facilities sponsorship
  • Hiring on campus ambassadors to rep your products

In addition to the above on-campus efforts, the Handit2 Network has an alternative strategy that will set you free from the cluttered school environment, yet still help you reach this coveted demographic:

Target relevant venues not on-campus, but immediately nearby.

Here’s how it works:
  • Identify the businesses/amenities nearby that attract your type of consumer
    • health clubs?
    • hair salons/barber shops?
    • yoga studios?
    • climbing gyms?
    • swimming pools?
    • tanning salons?
    • bars?
    • restaurants?
    • coffee shops?
    • [somewhere else?]
  • Identify the schools you want to target.  Sort by...
    • geography
    • enrollment/school size
    • student age
    • school type
      • public vs private
      • religious vs secular
      • gender
  • Draw a 1 mile ring around each school
  • Target the relevant venues you have specified within each 1 mile ring

Most Handit2 Network campaigns include a geotargeting component.  In addition to targeting schools, we can also geotarget around…
  • A particular retail chain (Walgreens, Publix, etc)
  • A random assortment of independent pharmacies and/or natural foods stores that carry your product
  • Tour venues/locations
  • Really any other network of locations that are relevant to you
